RECreational/level 1 Picnic Paddle - Dunedin Causeway

Trip Leader: Bob Morris, 727 804 3636, rcmorrisfa@aol.com

Trip Description: The plan is to paddle from the causeway west of Sail Honeymoon and High & Dry Grill, eastward along the causeway.  We will turn south to explore the two Sand Keys as shown on NOAA charts and referred to as the King Islands Management Area by Pinellas County.  There are some interesting structures on the west island visible in Google Earth.  We will make a stop on Spoil Island 13 which is shown as a camping spot on the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail.  We will check out the land features and take a cooling immersion break. We will return to launch in time to load and have lunch.

Requirements:
- Kayaks must be 14’ or longer with sealed hatches or flotation, able to sustain speed of about 2 mph.  Contact trip leader if in doubt.
- Participants must have wet exit skills and must wear a PFD.
- Please bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and sun-protective clothing.  This is essential due to recent hot weather conditions.

Time and Details:
- Meet time: 8:30 AM
- Launch time: 9:00 AM
- Distance: 5 miles or less, round trip
- Pace: 2 mph average

See TBSK's Skills Self Assessment Chart and contact the trip leader if you have any questions.
