Coaches: Jill Lingard, Scott Jantz, Tom Malone, Jill Mosteller
Location: Fort De Soto Park, located at 3500 Pinellas Bayway S in Tierra Verde. As you enter the park, turn left at the flagpole and drive past the sign to East Beach to park at the end of that arm of the peninsula. (East Beach itself has restroom facilities.)
NOTE: Tampa Bay Waterkeeper issued an enterococcus alert for Fort De Soto Boat Ramp in late July. It's not our exact spot, but not too far away. The alert appears to have expired now, but we will keep an eye on water quality issues and move the class if needed. Keep an eye on your email for updates in the days leading up to this session.
Date/Time: Tuesday, August 19. Arrive by 8:00 a.m. to gear up and be ready to launch by 8:30. We'll finish around 11:00-11:30.
Description: There's nothing like a summer of practicing (often exhausting) self-rescues to make one want to learn how to roll! At our June and July rescue classes, several paddlers indicated an interest in learning or refining their rolls...but we ran out of time to work much on that. It'll be ALL ABOUT ROLLING on August19. Whether you're looking for refinement or trying a roll for the first time, there will be coaches on hand to guide you...as well as teach us all on how to spot one another. We can also work on re-enter and rolls and balance braces.
What to bring: The usual paddling gear, plus a spray skirt. Participants must wear a PFD. Nose plugs or a dive mask can also be very helpful when learning how to roll. It's our hottest summer on record--bring plenty to drink. Staying wet will help us all.
If you have any medical issues that might impact your rescue practice, please notify leaders before the trip so that they can be best equipped to assist you as needed.
If your plans to participate change, please cancel on the website so that people on the waitlist can join the class.
