Communications + VHF Training + Easy Paddle

Monthly Training: Communications and VHF Radios

This month we’ll play around with communications, how to use them, and even do some scenarios. This is a great skill for trip leaders, trip leader candidates and casual paddlers alike.

The plan: 

• Meet up at Mobbly Bayou Beach Park. We'll initially try to find an unoccupied shelter nearby a launch spot. Look for Anthony's "Ant-Van," the big silver MB Sprinter.
  
• Look at different ways of communicating on the water, from the simple (hand and paddle signals) through the complex (VHF radios).
• Practice new skills in scenarios on land.
• Go for a short paddle around Philippe Park and practice on water communications technique.
• Bring any communications devices or skills you regularly use in your own paddling.

Paddle Element Notes: Time permitting from the training, we will go for a short paddle and practice a bit of on-water communication. All kayak types are welcome and skill level will be recreational. PFD with whistle attached is required. Sun protection layers, sun block, and water and highly recommended. Contact the trip leader(s) below with any concerns.
