Trip leaders: Scott Jantz (386-853-5159) and Jill Lingard (352-665-1776)
Description: With an early morning launch from the south end of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, we'll try to beat the worst of the summer heat on a circumnavigation of Rattlesnake Key. It'll be about an 8-mile round-trip paddle.
Location: Manatee County Rest Area, which is the south rest area of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge along I-275. Park close to the picnic tables away from the two-story restroom building. The launch is a short trail through the mangroves.
Schedule: Meet at 7:30AM to prep for launch by 8:00AM. We'll return around noon.
Difficulty: Level II. See TBSK's Skills Assessment Chart and contact the trip leaders if you have any questions.
Required/suggested: Kayaks of at least 14' in length, spray skirts, and properly fitted PFDs. Bring snacks and PLENTY to drink...we aim to beat the worst of the heat out there, not all the heat.
If you have any medical issues that might impact your paddling, please notify trip leaders before the trip so that they can be best equipped to assist you as needed.
