TERRA CEIA: IN SEARCH OF COWNOSE RAYS - PART 2

Trip leader: Scott Jantz, 386-853-5159, scottjantz2@gmail.com

Description: We will explore the shallow coastline of Terra Ceia to look for rays and sharks while staying away from boat channels and holiday weekend traffic. We can also explore the artificial reef that has been installed in the last couple years. We'll have optional opportunities to cool down with rolls and “korkeling” (kayak snorkeling).  Bring a mask if you're interested; we'll have some extras on hand to loan out.

Location: Manatee County Rest Area, which is the south rest area of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge along I-275. Park close to the picnic tables away from the two-story restroom building. The launch is a short trail through the mangroves.

Schedule: Saturday, May 24.  Meet at 9AM for a 9:30 launch.  We'll finish around noon-1PM.

Additional information: Bring snacks and plenty to drink--it'll be hot!

Difficulty: Level 1-2, depending what the group wants.  We'll paddle 5-10 miles or until we're tired of the heat.

Required:: Kayaks of at least 14' in length, spray skirts, and properly fitted PFDs.

If you have any medical issues that might impact your paddling, please notify the trip leader before the trip so that he can be best equipped to assist you as needed.

See the Skills Self Assessment Chart on the web site and contact the leader with any questions. Please register (or cancel) on the web site or RSVP to the trip leader to allow notification of any last minute changes.
