TBSK TRAINING DAY: "RESCUE ME!"

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

Weather forecast looks good for Sunday so this event is ON!

VENUE CHANGE:  Water quality testing has revealed "moderate" levels of  enterococcus at EG Simmons Park, so we're moving this training to Fort De Soto Park, located at 3500 Pinellas Bayway S in Tierra Verde.  As you enter the park, turn left at the flag pole and drive to EAST BEACH at the end of that arm of the peninsula. Rescue practice involves immersion--we want that to be in clean water!

TIME CHANGE:  Meet at 7:30AM for an 8AM launch.  Yep, that's early.  We're striving to beat the worst of the heat and avoid predicted storms in the area.

Keep an eye on your email for further updates.  If chances for morning thunderstorms increase, we will need to reschedule this training.  We will make a "go/no go" call on Saturday.

Coaches:  Jill Lingard & Scott Jantz

Location: EG Simmons Conservation Park, 2401 19th Ave NW in Ruskin.  Park near the kayak launch.

Date/Time: Sunday, June 29.  Arrive by 7:30 a.m. Class will start at 8:00.  We'll finish up around 11:00.

Description: It's hot as blazes out there--LET'S GET WET!  Kayak rescues are perishable skills—even if you’re familiar with them, it’s important to practice them regularly to keep your proficiency up. We’ll facilitate practice on any kind of rescue that paddlers are interested in--assisted or self, incorporating assistive tools like stirrups and paddle floats as needed.  We can even progress to rolls and re-enter and rolls as time permits, but that won't be our primary focus.  This session is open to paddlers of all skill levels and sit-in or sit-on-top kayaks.

What to bring: The usual paddling gear, plus a spray skirt, stirrup, and paddle floats if you have them.  Nose plugs or a dive mask are useful for those looking to practice rolls or re-enter and rolls.  Coaches will bring extra paddle floats and stirrups to lend out as needed.  Participants must wear a PFD and should bring plenty to drink.

If you have any medical issues that might impact your rescue practice, please notify leaders before the trip so that they can be best equipped to assist you as needed.

Please register on the website or contact the trip leaders to notify them of any last minute changes to your plans to participate. Please cancel on the website if needed so that people on the waitlist can join the class.
