Description: Meet at Arrowhead Picnic Area, Fort DeSoto Park, 3500 Pinellas Bayway S, Tierra Verde and launch from beach. If conditions allow,  go through Bunces Pass paddling up to Irma Pass stopping briefly to enjoy Shell Key.  From there we'll paddle back on the interior to Arrowhead. High Tide at 3pm, 2.15 ft. Obviously we’ll make mid-trip adjustments in response to weather changes and group needs. If conditions are not favorable, we'll stay on the interior heading to Irma pass then around and back to Arrowhead. 

Location: Arrowhead Picnic and Fishing Area at Fort DeSoto,  Google Map link, here. Also Fort DeSoto Park MapUnless you have an annual pass, you need to pay the $6.00 entry fee at one of the vending machines scattered around the park.

Schedule: Saturday, April 19, meet at 8:30, launch by 9,  return by 11:45.  

Difficulty: Level 2.  See the Skills Self Assessment Chart on the web site and contact the leader with any questions.  Approximately 7-8 miles because of distance and conditions. Forecasted winds, 10-12 NNW - will reassess on Thursday.


Required / suggested / restrictedBoats must be at least 14 feet long with deck lines and sealed bow and stern flotation.

Remember that Tampa Bay Sea Kayakers requires that all trip participants wear a PFD and carry a whistle or other sound-producing device.  

Be sure to bring plenty of water, lunch, sunscreen, bug repellent, spray skirt (wet exit experienced) and footwear that will protect you against possible hazards at take out.  A paddling jacket or other waterproof outer layer and hat is a good idea.
