TITLE: Paddle Around Honeymoon Island

TRIP LEADER(S):  Nick von Poser (727)-698-0708

DESCRIPTION:  Meet Nick Von Poser at the Dunedin Causeway for a paddle around Honeymoon Island.  If you haven’t been around the island since the 2024 hurricane season, you’re in for a treat.  You'll have a chance to see all the changes like the new pass on the north end along with birds, turtles, and dolphins.   It’s forecast to be a beautiful day for paddling.

LOCATION: We'll meet on the south side of the Dunedin Causeway just west of the High and Dry Grill (kayak rental) and launch from there.  Take out will be the same location.

SCHEDULE: Meet at Dunedin Causeway at 9AM.  We’ll unload the boats and launch by 9:30 AM.  Expect to be back by 12:30 PM

DIFFICULTY:  Level II/III due to distance (8 miles) and seas 1-2 ft.  Winds are forecast at 7 knots.  Air temps range from 50-70 degrees Fahrenheit.  Water temperatures in the gulf are around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

REQUIRED:  minimum 15ft. Kayak with bulkheads and spray skirt, properly fitted PFD worn.  Bring plenty to drink and lunch snacks.  A dry bag with some extra warm layers to put on might also come in handy.  Paddle will start off a little cool but is forecast to warm up quickly.

RECOMMENDED:  Sunscreen, sunhat, neoprene or dry top, closed tow shoes, extra safety equipment like bilge, paddle float, radio, tow belt etc.

OTHER PLANNING NOTES: See TBSK's Skills Self Assessment Chart and contact trip leaders with any questions.  Please register (or cancel) on the trip webpage or email trip leaders with any changes in your plans.
