TBSK TRAINING DAY: "RESCUE ME!"
Coaches: Jill Lingard, Scott Jantz, and Tom Malone
Location: Anclote River Park, 1119 Ballies Bluff Road in Holiday
Date/Time: Saturday, June 15. Arrive by 8:30 a.m. Class will start at 9:00. We'll finish up in time for everyone to join the TBSK picnic at noon.
Description: It's hot as blazes out there--LET'S GET WET! Kayak rescues are perishable skills—even if you’re familiar with them, it’s important to practice them regularly to keep your proficiency up. We’ll facilitate practice on any kind of rescue that paddlers are interested in--assisted or self, incorporating assistive tools like stirrups and paddle floats as needed. This session is open to paddlers of all skill levels and sit-in or sit-on-top kayaks. If you've never performed a kayak rescue before or been rescued yourself, please come so you can learn some new strategies for keeping yourself and your fellow paddlers safe.
What to bring: The usual paddling gear, plus a spray skirt, stirrup, and paddle floats if you have them. Nose plugs or a dive mask might be useful for those looking to practice re-enter and rolls. Coaches will bring some extra paddle floats and stirrups to lend out as needed.
