Trip title: Rainbow River Springhead and back from Blue Run – Level 2/Level 1

Description:

Level 1 Group: Meet at KP Hole Park, 9435 SW 190th Avenue Rd, Dunnellon, FL 34432. Meet at 9:30 a.m. Be ready to Launch at 10 a.m. We will paddle up river to the Rainbow River Springhead, and paddle back to KP Hole Park with snorkeling opportunities on the way. There is a $7 launch fee at the park. Total distance: ~4 miles. Return to the park is likely to be approximately 2 p.m.
Level 2 Group: Meet at Blue Run of Dunnellon Park, 19680 E Pennsylvania Ave, Dunnellon, FL 34432. Meet at 8:15 a.m. Be ready to launch at 8:45 a.m. We will paddle up to KP Hole Park, meet the L1 group, continue upriver to the springhead with snorkeling opportunities, then paddle back to the Blue Run ramp. Total distance: ~10 miles. Return to the park is likely to be approximately 3 p.m.
Overall Plan:
- Paddle up river to spring head.
- Park kayaks/SUPs. Note: $2 donation requested to park SUP/kayak at the park).
- Snorkel at the spring and take a lunch/snack break.
- Paddle/float back and snorkel in the river 1 mile north of KP Hole.
Lunch/Social (Optional): Return to the park is likely to be approximately 2 p.m. Meet at Swampy's afterward for food and refreshments around 3-4 p.m.

Location: See description. L1 group will meet at KP Hole Park. L2 group will meet at Blue Run of Dunnellon Park.

Additional information: Public restrooms are available. $7 launch fee at KP Hole Park. $2 vessel parking requested donation at Rainbow River spring head.

Difficulty: L2 for distance, half of which will be against current.

Required / suggested / restricted: PFD required/must be worn with whistle attached, bring plenty of water (64 oz+), snack/lunch, sunscreen, change of clothes, snorkel/fins, leash for kayak if floating and snorkeling on the way back. Cash for parking. Dry bag for clothes.

Level 2: Kayak 14+ feet or longer for paddling against current for half of trip (~5 miles).
Level 1: SUPS/Rec kayaks 9 feet or longer are acceptable, (with flotation if sit-inside, or drainage if sit-on-top).
