TARPON SPRINGS AND UPPER ANCLOTE—LEVEL 1

Meet Al Tillson and Tom Malone (Trip Leaders) at Craig Park (100 Library Ln in Tarpon Springs) at 10AM to launch at 10:30 on Wednesday February 21st  for a paddle up the Anclote River past the historic sponge docks and into the wilder mangrove and salt marsh environments upriver.  On the return, we can check out Spring Bayou next to our launch spot;  it’s the site of the annual cross dive at Epiphany each January and often holds a few manatees in winter.  We’ll paddle about 4 hours at a leisurely pace with a stop midway for a lunch/snack break.  Boats should be at least 13 feet long with sealed bow and stern flotation and deck lines or grab loops.  Please RSVP on club website with Al Tillson (altillson@yahoo.com or 813-832-3961).

Be sure to bring plenty of water, lunch/snack, sunscreen, repellent, and footwear that will protect you against possible oyster shells at take outs.   Please dress appropriately for colder air and water temperatures (and wind):  no cotton. A paddling jacket or other waterproof outer shell is also essential.
