LEVEL 1 PLUS (for distance)--FORT DESOTO--LIMIT 9 PADDLERS
Meet Al Tillson (813-832-3961; altillson@yahoo.com) near the kayak rental in Fort Desoto Park at 10:30AM on Wednesday January 17th for an 11:00 launch. The later launch time should get us better water levels. We’ll be paddling about 3 hours at a leisurely pace toward the eastern end of Mullet Key with a lunch/snack break somewhere around midway. Should see nice views of the Skyway Bridge, lots of mangroves, a variety of fish and water birds, and hopefully a few white pelicans. Distance of about 6 -7 miles.
Be sure to bring plenty of water, lunch/snack, sunscreen, repellent, and footwear that will protect you against possible oyster shells at take outs. Please dress appropriately for colder water temperatures: no cotton. A waterproof outer shell is also a good idea. All boats should be at least 15 feet long and have sealed bow and stern flotation as well as bow and stern grab loops and/or deck lines.
