Fred Howard Park to Anclote Key Lighthouse

EVENT DETAILS:

Description: We’ll paddle from the kayak launch just south of Picnic Shelter #6 (across the little bridge on the right in the mangroves) to the Lighthouse on Anclote Key. If we have time we’ll explore the south side of the island, take a break on the beach, surf a wave etc. and then head back to join the picnic. Distance from the kayak launch to the lighthouse is 3 miles and 2/3 of the distance is in open water.
Location: Fred Howard Park - 1700 Sunset Dr, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689. We will gather near picnic shelter #6 and shuttle boats about 100 yds over to our typical launch spot just south across the little bridge.
Schedule: Saturday, May 19th LAUNCH by 9:00 AM ET. Expect to return no later than noon for the picnic. I’ll be there by 8:15-8:30 AM to help shuttle boats.
Additional information: No charge for parking. I believe there is water for clean up.
Difficulty: Level III, distance of 6 miles round trip miles in open water, may be choppy. Must have open water skills (See Skills Self Assessment Chart link below for level assignment)
Required: Sea kayak at least 15' with water-tight bulkheads, decklines, and spray deck; no inflatable PFDs. Bring a snack, plenty of water/sports drink, and sunscreen.
