Fred Howard Park to Anclote Key Lighthouse

Description: We’ll paddle from the kayak launch just south of Picnic Shelter #5 to the Lighthouse on Anclote Key. If we have time we’ll explore the south side of the island, take a break on the beach, surf a wave etc. and then head back to join the picnic. Distance from the kayak launch to the lighthouse is 3 miles and 2/3 of the distance is in open water.
Location: War Veteran’s Memorial Park is located at 9600 May Pines Boulevard, St. Petersburgh. – drive all the way to the kayak/canoe launch.
Schedule: Saturday, May 20 Meet at 9:00 and be GONE by 9:30. Expect to return no later than noon for the picnic
Additional information: No charge for parking. I believe there is water for clean up.
Difficulty: Level III, distance of 6 miles round trip miles in open water, may be choppy. Must have open water skills (See Skills Self Assessment Chart link below for level assignment)
Required: Sea kayak at least 15' with water-tight bulkheads, decklines, and spray deck; no inflatable PFDs. Bring lunch/snack and lots of water/sports drink, lunch, sunscreen.
