Description: Launch from Pop Stansell Park to explore several of the spoil islands north of the Dunedin Causeway. This trip will include passing two small islands with restricted access because of birds, so possibly some bird sightings there. There will be some open water paddling and a few stops along the way to visit and possibly clean up, optional, some of the spoil islands. Trash bags will be provided, or feel free to bring your own. We’ll only collect trash that can be returned via kayak. The forecast winds are from the SW at 9-11 mph, subject to change. This will be a moderately paced paddle with small waves at the current forecast.

Schedule: Wednesday, May 3. Meet at 9:00 or as needed, for 9:30 launch time. Approximate trip duration: 2.5 -3 hours.
Additional information: Restrooms are available near the stage. Paved parking with carts needed to reach launch site. No water available for kayak and gear rinse off. No Fees. High tide about 8:15 am.
Difficulty: Level 2, could change to Level 2 Plus if winds increase. Approximately 5 miles with small waves, little current and protected launch area which may be a bit muddy at the return with the lower tide level. Temps cool to start, low 70s, reaching 80 during the trip. Please dress accordingly with plenty of sun protection and hydration.
Required / suggested / restricted: 15’ minimum length kayaks with bulkheads with standard safety equipment and plenty of hydration. No inflatable PFDs. Insect repellant might be wise if the bugs like you.
