Trip title: Monthly Training – Directional Control

Description: Meet Tom Malone to learn how to control your kayak with edging, sweep strokes, bow rudder, and low brace turns.
Location: Fort DeSoto State Park, kayak rental post. Head south through main entrance, then turn right at the T. Kayak post will be a short drive (1/4 mile or so) on your RIGHT.

Schedule: Saturday, April 15, 2023. Arrive by 9:15am, meet on shore for quick briefing and begin training by 9:45am. ~2 hours of training with time to load and move to the picnic shelter.
Additional information: Public restrooms are ACROSS the street, so stop there first, if needed;). High tide at 11:13am, Low tide at 2:55pm.
Difficulty: All Levels
Required / suggested / restricted: Required: Kayaks 15’ or longer, PFD worn, a whistle, Spray skirt is recommended. Quick dry clothing worn, secure water shoes (no flip flops), and water. Sunscreen, a snack, a drybag for valuables, a sense of adventure, a smile, and desire for fun are recommended.
