Lake Tarpon

Description: Needing to avoid red tide in the Gulf, we'll plan to paddle from John Chestnut Park north exploring Lake Tarpon’s Eastern Shore for about 4 miles before taking a lunch/snack break and returning to the Park. Depending on conditions, may cross the lake to return on the Western lakeshore.
Location: John Chestnut Park (2200 E Lake Rd, Palm Harbor, FL 34685)
Schedule: Wednesday, March 8th. Meet at 9:30 and be GONE by 10:00
Additional information: No charge for parking, no water connections for boat cleaning. The launch is from the power boat ramps – turn left just after entering the park from Eastlake Road.
Difficulty: Level II, distance of 8 to 10 miles, some in open water, may be choppy. Must have open water skills (See Skills Self-Assessment Chart link below for level assignment)
Required: Sea kayak at least 15' with water-tight bulkheads, deck lines, and spray deck; no inflatable PFDs. Bring lunch/snack and lots of water/sports drink, lunch, sunscreen.
