Trip leader: Jill Lingard, jill.lingard@gmail.com, 352-665-1776

Description:  Designated an Outstanding Florida Water, the Little Manatee River is a narrow, tannin-stained stream winding between high sandy banks in its upper reaches which eventually broadens downstream as it nears the Gulf of Mexico.

Location: We’ll launch from the Canoe Outpost on the Little Manatee River, located at 18001 US Highway 301 in Wimauma, and paddle downstream ~ 10 miles to the Wildcat Park boat ramp in Ruskin.  The Florida Paddling Trails Association provides maps and further information for the Little Manatee River paddle here.  You can also access further details from Florida’s Office of Greenways & Trails here.  View a story map with photos of this section of the river here.

PLEASE NOTE: The outfitter charges a $5 ramp fee per boat.

Schedule: Meet at 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 13 at the Canoe Outpost to unload and shuttle some vehicles to our take-out.  We’ll aim for getting on water by 10 a.m. and finishing up by mid-afternoon.

Difficulty: This is a Level 2 trip due to paddling distance of 10 miles. Higher water levels typical of our summer rainy season causes a swifter downstream current on this twisty river.  Paddlers should be comfortable taking occasional quick maneuvers to avoid partially submerged tree limbs or strainers.

Required gear: Wear a PFD and bring lunch, snacks, and plenty of water to drink.  Refer to TBSK’s Skills Self Assessment Chart and contact the leader with any questions.
