  • A chance to learn several self-rescue techniques

Registration is closed

Instructors: Jill Lingard, jill.lingard@gmail.com, 352-665-1776 & Scott Jantz, scottjantz2@gmail.com, 386-853-5159.  Others added as needed to maintain 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio.

Description:   Let’s figure out how to get back in or on our boats after a capsize!  To maximize our self-sufficiency and minimize close contact with others, these COVID times present us with a great opportunity to sharpen our self-rescue skills.  This session is open to paddlers of all skill levels and sit-in or sit-on-top kayaks.  Come prepared to fall over, get wet, and laugh a lot!

Location: East side of Gandy Beach in St. Petersburg near The Getaway restaurant.

Schedule: Meet at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, November 21, and launch by 9 a.m.  Bring a snack and plenty of water to drink—we’ll have a chance to stop for breaks.  Weather permitting, we’ll finish up around noon.

Additional information:

  • Parking is free.
  • This session will be capped at 8 students.

COVID-related recommendations:

  • To minimize contact among the group, pair up with another paddler for the day if help is needed moving boats between vehicles and launch.
  • Bring biodegradable hand soap and hand sanitizer for use after handling someone else’s boat on or off the water.
  • Wear face masks or buffs while loading/unloading boats and gear.
  • Maintain minimum spacing of 6’ on and off the water.

Required gear: Wear a PFD and bring a paddle float if you have one.

Please register (or cancel) on the website or RSVP to an instructor to allow notification of any changes.
