Trip has been cancelled.
Meet Al Tillson to launch from the Pinellas side of Gandy Bridge near Urban Kai at 9:30 a.m. to launch at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 11 for a paddle south toward Weedon Island and into some of the mangrove area.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we will practice social distancing on and off the water and prioritize towing in the event of a capsize. To facilitate this, we will spend a few minutes before launch learning and practicing a method of getting into our boats that makes it possible to handle slightly deeper water. We’ll be close to shore most but not all of the time.
We’ll paddle about 3 hours at a leisurely pace with a stop midway for lunch. Boats should be at least 14 feet with flotation and should have bow and stern grab loops and/or deck lines.
.Level 1 PLUS due to distance (8 miles more or less). Location may be changed if required by weather conditions.
Be sure to bring plenty of water, a face mask, lunch/snack, sunscreen, bug repellent, footwear that will protect you against possible oyster shells at take outs, and clothing that will keep you warm if you get wet. A waterproof outer shell is a very good idea.
Please RSVP on club website.
Limit: 6 paddlers.
