Designated as an “Outstanding Florida Waterway” and “Registered National Landmark” this river starts at Rainbow Springs (fourth largest in Florida) and runs 6 miles to meet up with the Withlacoochee River at Dunnellon. Crystal clear underwater viewing, easy current, suitable for most watercraft (keep up with the group).

Meet at KP Hole County Park (3 mi NE of Dunnellon) and be ready to run a shuttle by 10:30. Most cars will then be left in Dunnellon (N Florida Ave Boat Ramp). We’ll paddle up river from KP Hole 1.5 miles to the springs headwaters then turn downriver for a leisurely pace to Dunnellon. Debrief later at Swampy’s Bar & Grill.

Two challenges, one is the approx. 2 hr drive each way to Dunnellon. The other is the 1.5 mile upriver paddle to the headwater spring. The rest is easy. Some options: Camp at Rainbow Springs State Park (see link below). Skip the upriver part of the paddle and instead wait to join the group at KP Hole as we go by.

Rated as Level II due to upriver section and total miles. Refer to the TBSK website Paddling Guide for additional guidance.
