New Year's Day Paddle Canceled; Impromptu Paddle Scheduled

The official TBSK New Year's Day Paddle is canceled for tomorrow because of expected high winds. There will be an impromptu paddle for Level III paddlers comfortable paddling in 20-25 knot winds. Impromptu paddlers will meet at Weedon Island at 9:30 AM tomorrow for a 10 AM launch.

There will be no formal trip leaders, no trip along the outside route, and no paddler shuttle. Food transport will be provided by Kathy Selles. If TBSK members would like to meet the paddlers for lunch at Crisp Park in St. Petersburg, they will arrive by 11:30 AM.

Weedon Island to Crisp Park (St. Petersburg) and return – optional one-way trip for moderate paddlers.

 Join us for the club’s annual New Year’s Day paddle and potluck feast.

Please note that this paddle goes forward, rain or shine, and is not likely to be canceled for bad weather. Please check the forecast and dress for the weather. 

If you are paddling, meet at Weedon Island kayak launch ramp at 9:30 A.M. for a 10:00 A.M. launch on New Year’s Day. We will head south through Bayou Grande and then through the canals, emerging into Placido Bayou and then onto Crisp Park for lunch. Bring a dish to share. Total distance to Crisp Park is 4 miles. One-way paddlers may stop here. A shuttle will be set up before the launch. Roundtrip paddlers will go approx. 8 miles through the canals or 10 miles if the outside route in Tampa Bay is available. Please bring water, a dish to share for lunch, sunscreen and a hat. No inflatable PFDs. Please RSVP if you plan to join us.

If you plan to meet us at Crisp Park for lunch, we should arrive by water around 11:30 AM. We have tables and a covered pavilion reserved this year. The address is 3600 Poplar St NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33704.

Paddle difficulty: Level I - one-way, Level II – canal roundtrip, Level III – outside roundtrip.

Looking for 3 trip leaders and at least 1 volunteer to collect food at Weedon Island and bring it to Crisp Park.
