  • Easy paddle to a unique feature with optional add-on for more advanced paddlers.

NO LONGER ALLOWING REGISTRATION BECAUSE PADDLE IS FULL

Meet Al Tillson at Al Palonis Park near the Tampa end of Gandy Bridge at 8:45AM to launch at 9:30AM on Sunday July 2nd for an easy paddle north to the last significant undeveloped South Tampa shoreline north of Gandy. The launch spot is about 100 yards from the parking lot, so bring kayak wheels or borrow mine. We’ll stop for a dip in Georgetown lagoon. It’s completely surrounded by mangroves except for a small sand beach at the mouth, reportedly 20 feet deep in some places, possibly partly spring-fed, and way cooler than the surrounding bay water. We’ll explore some of the surrounding shoreline, stop for lunch/snack along the way, and return to the take-out by around 12:30 for a total of 1 ½ to 2 miles. Those with appropriate skills and boats who want to paddle further will continue down the coast toward Rattlesnake Point and Picnic Island for as much as 6 to 7 additional miles.

For beginners and up. See the Skills Self Assessment Chart on the web site and contact the leader with any questions.

All boats are welcome but must be in seaworthy condition with proper flotation, and PFDs must be worn at all times. Location may be changed if required by weather conditions. Directions to the put-in will be provided to all who register through the website or RSVP to Al Tillson (altillson@yahoo.com or 813-832-3961).
